Ginny Fuchs defeats Marlen Esparza; advances to the championship bout of the Olympic Trials

Memphis, TN (Oct. 28, 2015) – Ginny Fuchs defeated Marlen Esparza tonight in the semi-final round of the U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials. Fuchs, a Houston native who is seeded #2 in the 112-pound Flyweight division, won in a split-decision over top-seeded Esparza, who won the Bronze Medal in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Fuchs is now the only undefeated boxer remaining in the Flyweight division of the Olympic Trials, a double-elimination tournament which runs through Oct. 31 or Nov. 1. Fuchs will now fight for the championship on Saturday night. Because the Olympic trials is a double-elimination tournament, whichever boxer ultimately advances to the championship bout will have to defeat Fuchs twice to win the Trials. Those fights would take place on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 (if necessary).

There are now four boxers left in the Flyweight division of the Olympic Trials and another four boxers have been eliminated.
