Miami, FL - Ginny Fuchs defeated Mexican champion Sulem Urbina tonight in an exhibition fight as part of a World Series of Boxing event at the Miccosukee Sports & Entertainment Dome. Fuchs, fighting in the Flyweight division (112 pounds), won in a unanimous decision.
In other action, American Mikaela Mayer defeated Victoria Torres in a unanimous decision in the Lightweight division (132 pounds).
"I think we did really well," USA coach Billy Walsh said of Fuchs, Mayer, and the five males who also competed on Friday night. "The women were excellent, really really good. Some of the performances today were world class. We're building towards being a world class team and trying to compete at a world class level. I'm very happy with the performances tonight, it's been a really great improvement over the last couple of weeks. I know in a month's time we'll be at an Olympic qualifier in Buenos Aires but today we're in a good state for that quest."
