Buenos Aires, Argentina - The bracket for boxing's 2016 American Qualification Event was announced today and Ginny Fuchs is seeded #2 in the 12-person tournament. The two finalists in this single-elimination tournament will qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
As a result of her seeding, Fuchs, who is competing in the Flyweight division (112 pounds), has earned a first round bye and will not fight until the quarterfinal round. Fuchs will need to win her first two fights to qualify for the Olympics.
Fuchs' first match will take place during the evening session on March 14 and she will face either Sulem Urbina (Mexico) or Cristina Porozo (Ecuador). This tournament runs from March 12-19.
If Fuchs does not finish in the top two in this tournament, she will have another chance to qualify for the Olympic Games during the 2016 Women's World Boxing Championships, which will be held from May 19-27, in Astana, Kazakhstan. The top four finishers in Kazakhstan automatically qualify for the Olympic Games.
There are three weight-classes in women’s boxing at the Olympic Games: Flyweight (112 pounds), Lightweight (132 pounds), and Middleweight (165 pounds). Each weight-class will feature 12 boxers at the Olympic Games.
