Fuchs suffers first loss in 14 months; can still qualify for Olympics in May

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Houston boxer Ginny Fuchs was defeated today by Colombia's Ingrit Lorena Valencia Victoria in the semi-final round of the 2016 American Qualification Event. With the win, Valencia Victoria automatically qualifies for the 2016 Olympic Games. This was Fuchs' first loss since January 2015.

Fuchs, who competes in the Flyweight division (112 pounds), will have one more chance to qualify for the Olympic Games during the 2016 Women's World Boxing Championships, which will be held from May 19-27, in Astana, Kazakhstan. The top four finishers in Kazakhstan automatically qualify for the Olympic Games.

There are three weight-classes in women’s boxing at the Olympic Games: Flyweight (112 pounds), Lightweight (132 pounds), and Middleweight (165 pounds). Each weight-class will feature 12 boxers at the Olympic Games.
