Fuchs and Perkins Win Gold at 2017 Continental Championships

Team USA picked up six medals on the sixth day of the 2017 Continental Championships, including two gold medals from flyweight Virginia Fuchs (Kemah, Texas) and heavyweight Danielle Perkins (Houston, Texas), at the Coliseum Nacional de Ingenieros in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Fuchs and Perkins were the highlight of the second session of the day, each taking their first Continental Championships title. 

Fuchs won all five judges card over Canada’s Mandy Bujold to take her third international title of the year. “Overall, I am very happy with my performance here,” stated Fuchs. “After losing last year in the semifinals, I came back showing everyone I am at that world class level.”

This year’s Continental Championships has brought over 200 boxers from 28 different countries. Team USA is led by Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.), as well as Resident Coach Kay Koroma(Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Assistant Coaches Joe Guzman (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Jeff Mays (San Antonio, Texas) and Augie Sanchez (Las Vegas, Nev.).
